Conclusion The circulation of Wikipedia content on thThe circulation of Wikipedia content on the web through the mediation of the Google search engine demonstrates the importance of the appropriation of open-source content by commercial interests. Such an appropriation is made possible by the use of dynamic production techniques that are now commonly used to publish user-produced content. As such, this study is in continuity with Lawrence Lessig’s (2006) argument that the internet is regulated both by its legal framework and its technical architecture or code. The articulation between the legal and the technical is what makes processes of commercialization of content possible.
